Giorgio’s Portabella Mushrooms are the largest of the commercially available mushrooms and have a rich, robust mushroom taste and a texture that has been compared to a fine filet mignon. Portabellas are actually a more mature crimini with an open veil.
We package portabella mushrooms in retail sizes from 6 oz to 14 oz. We also offer a line of stuffed portabellas with three different fillings:
- Cheese and imitation bacon
- Imitation crab
- Artichokes and spinach
Portabella Mushrooms have an robust, more intense flavor than white or crimini mushrooms. Their flavor intensifies when cooked.
Portabella mushrooms can be grilled, sautéed, or cooked in other fashions.
Try them sliced and sautéed on pizza, in pasta, on quesadillas, or cheeseburgers.
The focus on the nutritional value of brightly colored fruits and vegetables has unintentionally left mushrooms in the dark. Mushrooms provide a number of nutrients. A serving of 4-5 white mushrooms provides 18 calories, 0 grams of fat and 3 grams of carbohydrates, yet is a good source of the antioxidant selenium, the B vitamins riboflavin, niacin, and pantothenic acid; and copper. And mushrooms have close to 300 mg of potassium per serving, an important nutrient that many Americans do not get enough of. White mushrooms also contain 2.8 mg of the antioxidant ergothienine and 15 IU of vitamin D.
